An organisation’s Board sets the “tone from the top”: the culture, strategy and accountability of an organisation. 2into3 has a track record in supporting and enabling Boards from across the social innovation, nonprofit and public sector to ensure that their governance practices are enabling and in line with legislation and best practice.
To what extent is your organisation compliant with legislation and best practice?
Keeping up with changes in legislative frameworks and governance best practice can be a full time job. Therefore, it can be useful for organisations to periodically take stock of their practices, policies and procedures to ensure that they are full compliant.
We can work with you to review the extent to which your practices are in line with companies legislation and the Charities Governance Code, and to identify and help implement measures to strengthen your governance and accountability.
How could your Board be enabled to work more effectively?
The Charities Governance Code recommends that organisations “Conduct a regular review that includes an assessment of the effectiveness of your board as a whole, office holders and individual charity trustees; adherence to the board code of conduct; and the structure, size, membership and terms of reference of any subcommittees”
We can work with you and your Board to design a bespoke Board effectiveness review to suit your organisation, which will result in insights and recommendations for strengthening how your Board works and leads together. Elements of a Board effectiveness review can include
- Effectiveness surveys for all Board members
- Board member interviews
- Board development programmes
- Board effectiveness report with action plans and recommendations
Throughout this process we communicate and consult with your Board and CEO to ensure that our work is constructive, supportive and collaborative.
How can you support Board members to carry out their responsibilities effectively?
All Board benefit from investing in their own development and effectiveness. We can work with you to develop a Board development programme to provide your Board members with updates and training into their roles and responsibilities, legislative requirements and best practices.
As your organisation has new members join the Board, its important that they are equipped with the knowledge and capacity to deliver effectively. Whether they have been Board members before or not, they will need to understand your organisation and your particular governance practices and policies. For first-time Board members, they may need additional information about their legal responsibilities. We can work with you to update existing or to develop new induction packs for your Board members, and to deliver bespoke training.
