Community Sports Facilities Fund (CSFF) 2023: A Look Back at Our Clients’ Success

With the Community Sports Facilities Fund (CSFF) 2026 round on the horizon, we’re taking a moment to look back at the success stories from the last round. The 2023 round delivered brilliant news for clubs and organisations across Ireland. Here’s a look at some of the clients we supported — and the projects that received funding.

Bishopstown Lawn Tennis Club, Cork

Bishopstown Lawn Tennis Club (BLTC) in Co. Cork is a thriving community club with 757 members and 13 active facility-sharing agreements with local organisations including Foroige, REHAB, and the COPE Foundation. Signed up to the Tennis Ireland Equal Advantage Charter, BLTC has a strong commitment to gender inclusion and community access. Their CSFF application sought funding to upgrade three courts — replacing the surface and improving facilities to support members of all ages and abilities. The club applied for €200,000 towards a total project cost of €239,485 and was delighted to receive an allocation of €161,953.

Taghmon United AFC, Wexford

Taghmon United AFC in Co. Wexford had ambitious plans to develop a new home for the club in the heart of their village. Their pitch was not fit for purpose — games were regularly cancelled, and the distance from the village was discouraging participation. Phase 1 of their development focused on a pitch surface development at Meitheal Munna, Taghmon, to enable the club to grow membership across all ages, reopen their female team, and provide a welcoming facility for Ukrainian families and special needs children in the community. Taghmon applied for €200,000 towards a total project cost of €258,667, and following a successful appeal, received an allocation of €200,000. 2into3 was delighted to support the club through both their application and their appeal.

Midlands Football League (Schoolboys/Schoolgirls), Offaly

The Midlands Football League is the governing body for 35 soccer clubs across five Midlands counties, with over 5,400 registered underage players. Their landmark project — the development of a full-size 3G Astro-turf pitch in Clara, Co. Offaly — is the first of its kind in the county, consolidating activity across six locations into a single high-performance hub. The facility saves the League around €50,000 annually in rental costs and is open to a wide range of sports and community groups. With 43% of member clubs based in disadvantaged areas, inclusivity was central to the project’s design. The League applied for €500,000 towards a total project cost of €671,497.90 and received an allocation of €482,146. 2into3 was proud to support this regional application.

Castlebar Town FC, Mayo

Castlebar Town FC in Co. Mayo is a multicultural club of 292 members, with players from Romania, Brazil, Sudan, and Myanmar among its underage teams. The club’s existing AstroTurf pitch had deteriorated to the point of being unfit for use, and their application sought funding to replace the surface, upgrade fencing, install energy-efficient LED floodlights, and purchase pitch maintenance equipment. The upgraded facilities are expected to grow membership by 50%, with a particular focus on women’s teams. CTFC shares its grounds with Mayo Community Games, National Learning Network, and The Order of Malta. The club applied for €130,767.84 towards a total project cost of €156,267.84 and received an allocation of €111,321.

Villiers School, Limerick

Villiers School in Limerick has a longstanding partnership with Limerick Hockey Club (LHC), with their shared facilities used by 583 students and 446 LHC members, as well as a range of local sports and community groups. Their application focused on upgrading the hockey field — replacing the existing surface with a more environmentally sustainable alternative, installing modern goalposts, and adding LED floodlights to extend playing hours and reduce energy use. The project also aimed to improve accessibility for wheelchair users and to further grow female participation in hockey, which stood at 57% of all players at the time of application. A joint management committee between the school and LHC oversees the facility. Villiers applied for €200,000 and received an allocation of €120,427.

Ardfert GAA, Kerry

Ardfert GAA’s sportsfield in Co. Kerry had been in use since 1953 but had gone undeveloped for 70 years, no longer meeting the needs of a growing and increasingly diverse community. The club — which serves 810 members across football, hurling, and camogie, and shares facilities with St. Brendan’s Hurling Club and Cillard Camogie Club — applied for funding to fully redevelop the grounds. Planned improvements included a resurfaced pitch, improved disability access, accessible toilet facilities, and a community walkway. The parish is home to 350 Ukrainian residents and 12 traveller families, many of whom are active in the club’s underage teams. Ardfert applied for €200,000 towards a total project cost of €262,432 and received an allocation of €168,073.

Four Masters GAA, Donegal

Four Masters GAA in Donegal Town is a club of 886 members with an ambitious vision for the future. Their project — the development of a new indoor training and fitness centre — will serve 26 teams, five primary schools, the Abbey Vocational School, and the wider Donegal Town community. The facility will include a “Changing Places” changing room for people with disabilities, developed in close partnership with the Bluestack Special Needs Foundation. Sustainability is central to the design, targeting Net Zero Operational Carbon Dioxide Emissions through an air-to-water heat pump, LED lighting, and photovoltaic panels. Four Masters applied for €500,000 towards a total project cost of €1,050,000 and received an allocation of €436,663.
